Reporting directly to the Dean in support of the initiatives
defined by the Dean and Divisional Deans, the incumbent will
initiate the development, planning, implementation & evaluation of
a communications program for the College of Natural & Agricultural
Sciences (CNAS). Reaching both internal and external audiences as
appropriate, the program ensures wide-spread representation of the
College's research, activities and accomplishments. The Director of
Communications researches and gathers information to craft
communications aimed at reputation enhancement and recognition of
important events. As such, s/he works as a liaison with central
campus offices including University Communications, University
Advancement, Information Technology Services and the office of
Governmental & Community Relations to ensure that CNAS
accomplishments are incorporated into the larger communication
plans. The incumbent must have an interest in leveraging social
media. Ability to guide the college through a comprehensive web
redesign effort and skills to maintain & bolster a CNAS web
presence are also required. The candidate must be hands-on and act
as an able advisor to CNAS departments with the skills to write,
edit, layout and proof brochures, newsletters and other
publications in support of the teaching, research and service
missions of the College. Finally, as a coordinator for all types of
communications, the Director will represent the college at events
and assist event specialist with support & readiness.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent
4 - 7 years of related experience.
Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
Experience in a wide variety of communication channels.
Experience with organizing and implementing special events.
Experience in directing photographers
Experience in Higher Education
Demonstrated significant experience in developing and implementing
a comprehensive web content strategy for responsive
Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision,
goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge
of current affairs, and issues in higher education and/or health
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to
ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and/or broad
Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active
listening and political acumen skills.
Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic
planning for various media venues, technical aspects and
requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective
Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to
effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical
work, including design concepts, various media, and
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long
and short term strategic communications plans.
