legal leadership together to protect seniors’ rights and access to
justice! The Supervising Attorney of the Seniors Unit will
supervise attorneys, support staff and volunteers who provide
holistic legal services to Orange County seniors age 60 years and
above regardless of their income or assets. Services for the
Seniors Unit will involve a variety of legal issues facing the
elderly population. This full-time exempt position reports to the
Directing Attorney. This is a hybrid position. Responsibilities:
Supervise, train, and support attorneys, paralegals, and
volunteers, including ongoing staff development and weekly case
reviews. Promote the Seniors Unit’s visibility by participating in
and encouraging engagement with local stakeholder and community
organizations. Identify and facilitate training opportunities to
strengthen staff expertise in legal issues affecting the senior
population. Ensure compliance with all funding requirements,
deliverables, and restrictions, with a focus on the Orange County
Office on Aging. Prepare and submit required reports, audits,
monitoring materials, and public comment responses in collaboration
with internal teams and funding partners. Serve as the subject
matter expert for the unit’s practice area, providing legal
guidance and oversight. Supervise and support staff attorneys,
paralegals, volunteers, and students across multiple offices,
including mentoring, training, and co-counseling cases. Maintain a
limited caseload and ensure accurate case notes and timekeeping in
LegalServer. Oversee the professional and administrative operations
of the unit, including setting priorities and implementing
strategies. Conduct regular case reviews, trainings, and outreach
activities to support staff development and community engagement.
Lead recruitment efforts, performance evaluations, and professional
development of unit staff. Coordinate policy advocacy, wrap-around
legal services, and grant deliverables in collaboration with CLA
SoCal units and Grants Management staff. Conduct regular case
reviews and audits to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance
with organizational policies and legal standards. Prepare reports
on performance, trends, and service gaps for leadership review.
Track productivity and outcomes to ensure performance aligns with
program goals and service delivery expectations. Work with a
multicultural perspective. Perform other duties as required to meet
the needs of the organization. Requirements: Education: Juris
Doctor and active membership in good standing with the State Bar of
California Bar or member of another state bar and ability to
register as a legal services provider. Qualifications: Minimum of 5
years of experience in the practice of law, broad experience in
lawyering skills, including client interviewing, legal research,
writing, drafting, negotiation, and demonstrated knowledge of
poverty law across substantive areas. Demonstrated interest and
experience working with the elderly population, with preferred
knowledge of legal areas commonly affecting seniors (including
public benefits, housing, elder abuse, consumer issues, and
probate/estate planning). Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise,
mentor, and motivate teams with strong written and verbal
communication skills. Proactive, solution-oriented professional
with sound judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities
with minimal supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
(Work, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Clio (or other Judicial
Council Form preparation program) and other software programs.
Reliable team player and effective multitasker with strong
organizational skills and attention to detail. Able to thrive in a
fast-paced, results-oriented work environment. Empathetic,
energetic professional with experience providing trauma-responsive
