To provide full professional-level technical glassblowing support
for research and teaching. This support includes but is not limited
to working closely with faculty, staff, and graduate students on
the design, construction, assembly, and testing of glassware and
managing the day-to-day operation of the glassblowing facility
which supports primarily CNAS college departments as well as other
departments on campus. This is the only Glass Shop on campus. This
is a part-time, 50% variable, career position. Hours will be based
on the workload/needs of shop clientele.

The full salary range for the Glassblower position is $37.29 -
$45.03 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position
is $37.29 - $41.90 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of
considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications,
experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a
UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take

Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations,
and eight years of experience in glassblowing of experimental
laboratory apparatus, including at least two years at the Senior
Laboratory Glassblower level; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to

Incumbent must have expertise in the repair, design and fabrication
of vacuum, distillation, cryogenic, optical and other glassware
apparatus. To achieve these goals, incumbent must be adept at
working with quartz, borosilicate and soft glasses. Must be able to
fabricate apparatuses such as double helium dewars, quartz optical
dewars, three stage D,P.I. fusion pumps and Shell design vapor and
liquid dividing heads. The production of dewars and distillation
apparatus requires knowledge of silvering, evacuating to high
vacuum and sealing off pumping stems.
Must be able to communicate in a professional manner.
Requires technical knowledge of complex scientific fabrication
techniques to properly fabricate scientific apparatus which may
have to withstand extremes of pressure, temperature and various
stresses and stains.
Must have working knowledge of different materials used in
scientific apparatus with respect to their characteristics, i.e.
hardness, grade and other similar factors.
