Under general direction of the Assistant Dean and Chief Financial
and Administrative Officer and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate
Education in the Graduate School of Education (GSOE), provides
fundamental academic advising to all Education Majors and Minors
within the Graduate School of Education. Duties include advising,
recruitment and outreach; graduation degree checks, assisting in
program evaluation and managing and maintaining fieldwork
relationships with external constituents. Responsible for the
interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures and
serve in a confidential advisory capacity to develop short-term and
long-term goals. Used independent judgement to identify and resolve
issues with broad implications. Regularly engages in analysis and
problem solving on critical issues. Functions as an expert and
resource, providing consultation to the Dean, Associate Dean,
Assistant Dean and other collaborating staff within the school.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent
Master's degree in related area.
4 - 7 years of related experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in addition to Bachelor's degree;
relevant Master's degree and fieldwork may offset 2 years of work
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop
original ideas to solve problems.
Writing skills to independently compose letters, memos, reports,
and other written communication for a variety of audiences, using
correct spelling, grammar and composition skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including tact,
diplomacy, adaptability, and skills in recognizing sensitive
situations with people of a diverse range of cultural, social,
educational, and religious backgrounds.
Ability to interpret and effectively articulate complex policies
and procedures, both orally and in writing. Skill in independently
researching questions and making appropriate contacts for problem
solving. Strong organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize
multiple and complex projects, maintaining strict attention to
