Save Education - Doctoral Degree - Master's Degree Skills - Laboratory Experience The Transportation & Land Management Agency (TLMA) has an opportunity for a Archaeologist who will be assigned to the Planning Department. The incumbent in this position will review planning case applications to determine whether archaeological evaluation field assessment of the land is necessary. The candidate selected will also serve as the cultural liaison for the county, state, federal and Native American governments. The Planning Department desires candidates with knowledge and experience in California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Assembly Bill AB52 and Senate Bill SB18. The County of Riverside Transportation & Land Management Agency (TLMA) is the umbrella agency for six county departments. They are the Planning Department, Building & Safety Department, Transportation Department, Code Enforcement Department, Environmental Programs Department and the Administrative Services Department. In total, TLMA employs more than 600 dedicated public servants who strive to meet the needs of the residents of Riverside County. The Administrative Services Department of TLMA provides the following services: Administrative Services, including human resources/payroll, purchasing and facilities support; Fiscal Services, including administration of deposit-based fee accounts, accounts receivable, and accounts payable; Counter Services, including management of two consolidated land development and permit centers located in Riverside and Palm Desert. To learn more about TLMA please visit their website at: *********************** Review environmental studies submitted to identify data pertinent to archaeological assessment to determine whether field assessment of the land is necessary for archaeological evaluation. Oversee assessments to determine the archaeological significance of land, using available sensitivity maps, field inspections and other pertinent information. Oversee field inspections of areas where proposed projects will be located to determine the likelihood that there was a settlement or other cultural resource present and the potential archaeological sensitivity of the land. Responsible for reviewing statements dealing with Environmental Impact Reports (CEQA) and evaluating their accuracy. Develop and maintains archaeological sensitivity maps of the County. Answer inquires and requests from the public, professional colleagues, the media, collectors, and governmental agencies and provides expert information concerning, artifacts or historical materials. Serves as the cultural liaison for the county, state, federal and Native American governments for AB52 and SB18 consultants Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a Master's Degree in archaeology, anthropology or a closely related field. AND Experience: Three years of practical experience in field or laboratory archaeology work. (A Ph.D. in archaeology or anthropology or closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.) Knowledge of: Research methods and field application of archaeological principles; federal and State legislation pertaining to archaeology; environmental impact reporting procedures. Ability to: Analyze data and draw logical conclusions; read and interpret topographic and survey data, legal property descriptions, grading plans, and engineering drawings; prepare environmental impact and other reports as needed; write professional correspondence concerning archaeological matters; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
